Community Action Trees
Building Environmental Stewardship,
Art and Community in San Francisco

Community action trees were built with over 200 people at a community celebration for World Environment Day 2005 on June 3rd, 2005.

People wrote down their response to the question “What will YOU do to build a greener San Francisco?” on a leaf and posted it to the tree art. The tree art was ornamenting the newly opened Hayes Valley Park as well as promoting an educational message on the environment to the community. Even the Mayor of San Francisco, Galvin Newson, couldn’t resist adding to the Trees, and wrote an action on a leaf and posted it.

Thanks to all the volunteers and those who donated funds to makes this project a reality!
